A Message from Your Hygiene Team: Why X-Rays Are So Important
October is Dental Hygiene Month, and we wanted to take a moment to share a little about what we do — and why those X-rays we take are such a big part of keeping your smile healthy!
Hi, we’re your hygiene team, Heather, Gina, and Jan and while our favorite part of the job is connecting with our patients, our goal every day is to help you keep your mouth healthy for life. That means more than just cleaning your teeth —it’s about prevention, early detection, and education.
Why We Take Dental X-Rays
We know X-rays aren’t anyone’s favorite part of a visit, but they give us a view we simply can’t get any other way. With them, we can:
Spot cavities before they cause pain or become costly
Detect bone loss or gum infection early
Check root and bone health under restorations or crowns
See what’s happening between teeth and under the surface
Catch hidden infections or cysts long before you’d feel symptoms
We use digital X-rays, which mean very low radiation (less than a short airplane flight!) and clear, detailed images that help us make the best recommendations for your care.
Prevention Is the Heart of What We Do
At each hygiene visit, we look beyond the polish, we review your gum health, home care habits, and any changes you’ve noticed. We love helping you find the right tools for your smile, like our new Sonicare toothbrushes and flossers available in the office.
Our favorite part? Seeing your progress over time, when you leave your visit healthier than when you came in, we call that a win!
From Our Chairs to Yours
Dental Hygiene Month is a great reminder that prevention really is everything. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, staying consistent with your cleanings, and keeping up with your X-rays all work together to protect your oral health and overall well-being.
Thank you for trusting us with your smiles, it’s truly an honor to care for such an amazing community here in Door County.
With gratitude,
Your Dentistry by Design Hygiene Team 💙
